We completed Unit 1 - Featuring Cass, one of the Superkids

Parents: Ask your children what Cass likes to do.
Possible Answers: cook, swim, play baseball, read, and run.

The students made text-to-self connections by "writing" about things Cass likes to do, followed by "writing" about things that they like to do.  At this time of year, we encourage all types of "writing".
This includes drawings, letters, words, invented spelling, and sentences.

This allows the children to enjoy the art of writing without fear of misspelling words.  They can express their stories in a way that you can join in the conversation.  For example, you might say tell me about your story.  I think you will be surprised at how much your children progress in the area of writing with lots of verbal encouragement and no request to fix grammar or spelling errors at this time.
