The kindergarten class observed the difference between an apple with no bites and one with two bites.

We made a two crafts for our bulletin board

We completed Unit 1 - Featuring Cass, one of the Superkids

Parents: Ask your children what Cass likes to do.
Possible Answers: cook, swim, play baseball, read, and run.

The students made text-to-self connections by "writing" about things Cass likes to do, followed by "writing" about things that they like to do.  At this time of year, we encourage all types of "writing".
This includes drawings, letters, words, invented spelling, and sentences.

This allows the children to enjoy the art of writing without fear of misspelling words.  They can express their stories in a way that you can join in the conversation.  For example, you might say tell me about your story.  I think you will be surprised at how much your children progress in the area of writing with lots of verbal encouragement and no request to fix grammar or spelling errors at this time.

Kinder Kids Features Kids

This Week in Kindergarten we were very busy!

We studied the seven days of creation, by reading about it, watching a video clip, singing about it, playing games, and acting it to a make a class movie.

Here are a few pictures from the class movie.  I only included children that I have a signed media release form in the classroom. Some forms may still be in the office.

More to come ….

Fun Lunch surprise from Mrs. Bailey!

We studied the letter C and Superkid Cass

Cass loves to cook, so we read stories about cooking such as
Froggy Bakes a Cake
Franklin Makes Homemade Cookies

Then on Friday we enjoyed decorating cookies and smelling them bake in the classroom.

It will be another hot week, so your children will be tried when they come home!

I hope you have a restful afternoon with your family

Ready or Not?

Recently, I mentioned to someone that I had been working in my classroom to get ready for my new group of kindergartners.

They were surprised that teachers went to school early to get ready to teach. Well your children are very important to us and we have been working hard to prepare for them.
This was my classroom at the end of last year! Yikes!

This was my classroom after I packed up.

Here is my classroom before unpacking this year.

Come by tomorrow to see it after unpacking this year!

The Big Question of the Day?

Every morning in kindergarten we start class with a prayer - song.

Next, we say the pledge of allegiance together.

Then, we ask the big question of the day:  "What's for lunch?"

At open house on Sunday, you will be asked to select a food plan.

A. School lunch with milk daily -  $40 per month.
B. School lunch with milk - $2.75 per meal eaten.
C. Lunch from home with school milk - $ 0.40 each.

Guest lunches are $3.00

Parents are welcome to join us for lunch.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Please, wait a few weeks after school starts, so we can establish a good routine and the students are comfortable at school.
2. Please, do not bring fast food or soda to lunch (school policy).
3. We would appreciate an email so we know to plan for your visit.

I hope this information is helpful. Please, feel free to email me if you have any questions.

How can I get emergency information about my child at school?

There are several ways to get emergency information about our school.

1. Local Radio Stations
2. Local TV Stations
3. Text Alerts

Of these three text alerts work best for parents, who are at work and unable to listen to the radio and TV.  So how do I sign up?  Of course, you would need to have a cellphone with texting data plan.

Next, click on the picture below to sign up online and a window will open that looks like this:
.

Step 1: Please complete the information below: (Name, zip code, over 13, text or email)

What are message groups? You can click on any of the groups that pertain to your family. If this is your first child in school, I would recommend Early Childhood, Parish Events, and Prayer Requests. You can add or delete groups later.  Then press CONTINUE.

In Step 2 of the sign up process, a personal authorization code will be sent to your mobile phone or email address. You will need to enter the 5-digit code in the next screen within (5) minutes in order to verify and complete your enrollment in the system. Do not navigate away from that screen until your enrollment is complete.

Congratulations!  Take a deep breath and exhale a sigh of relief.

You are connected anywhere your cellphone has service.

What is Happening at School?

What is best way to keep informed about important dates and events at school?

A. Ask your 5 or 6 year old.
B. Ask another parent.
C. Subscribe to Cathedral Kids.

While A, B, or C could be helpful, the best answer is C.

Cathedral Kids is written by Mr. Allen, our principal for the entire community.  If you have already signed up, that is great!  You should have received the latest edition today.

If you still need to sign up here are step by step directions:

1.  Click on this link:

2.  This image will open on your screen:

3.  Type in your email address that you want to receive the newsletter.

4. Press the continue button. Then this screen will appear:

5.  Type in your email address, first name, and last name.  Then check the box(es) that you want to receive.  Cathedral Connection is mainly for adult social events. Cathedral Kids is the school newsletter.  I subscribe to both.

6.  Type in the number or letters that appear in your window.  In this example it is 3608.

7.  Press the Sign Up button.

8.  Shortly after signing up, you should receive an email that looks like this image:

Now you will be able to keep up to date.  This is especially important on snow days, or when school has to dismiss early for some reason.

I hope you have found this post helpful.  The next post will explain how to sign up for text alerts.
