SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Buy Quality not Novelty
This post was written to help parents shop for school supplies.

The supplies in this picture are not
flashy, sparkly, or particularly cute.

But they are perfect for kindergarten!!!

1. Plain yellow pencils are better quality for beginning writers.
Novelty pencils with plastic images break easily,
and jam the pencil sharpeners.
2.  Pink or white rectangular erasers work better and last longer.
Novelty erasers are distracting to students and others.

3.  Metal scissors with one large hole and one small hole
are the best for developing fine motor skills.
Plastic scissors with two small holes - do not cut well.

School Boxes

4. These are the type of school boxes that kindergartners
 need in Mrs. Braddock's class. Approximate size8" L x 6" W
Bigger boxes do not fit it our cubbies.

Crayons - Crayola

5. Crayola Crayons with 24 crayons are prefect for kindergarten.
Larger boxes are difficult to keep organized.

Two Pocket Folders

6. We use our folders several times each day so,
the plastic or thicker cardboard folders work best.  They are easier for kindergartners to use and last longer.

The cheaper thin folders have smaller pockets and are frustrating for kindergarten students.

Backpacks

7.  Backpacks with zippers work the best.
They need to be tall enough to hold a folder.
Of course, no wheels.

8.  Ultra fine tip work the best for writing on lines. However, if you already bought wide tips that is ok.  Expo & Melissa-Doug are great brands for quality and lasting value

I saved the best news for last!
You only have write names on scissors.

If you already wrote your child's name on supplies, no worries.
It is meant to be a time saver for busy families.
Either way is fine.
